The biggest water user in the home is the toilet.
More than 45 percent of indoor water used is flushed
down the drain every day. Austell Public Works
is introducing a toilet retrofit rebate program to
provide an incentive for customers in homes built
prior to 1993 to retrofit older hi-flow toilets with
new low-flow technology. Customers will be
eligible to receive rebates for up to three toilets
per home for purchases made beginning November 5,
2007.
The program has two rebate options. The first
is a $50.00 rebate for the purchase of any approved
1.6 gallon per flush toilet on the approved toilet
list. These toilets were chosen because they
have been tested and proven as a quality product by
an independent testing lab. Also, they have
been shown to provide a sustained water savings over
time. The $50.00 rebate list will be updated
every year, coinciding with annual Maximum
Performance Testing.
The second program option is a $100.00 rebate for
high efficiency toilets. These toilets use 1.2
gallons per flush and have received the WaterSense
labeling certification. WaterSense is the
Environmental Protection Agency's labeling program
for water efficiency. It is modeled after the
Energy Star program and WaterSense toilets will have
the logo on the product. This list be updated
quarterly as WaterSense adds newly qualified
products.
The rebate will appear as a credit on the customers water
bill. Customers must purchase a toilet from
the approved list, submit the original receipt to
the water efficiency office, and, after verifying
the eligibility of the toilet and the age of the
home, a credit will be issued to the customers
account. Program funds have been capped and
rebates will be made on a first-come, first-serve
basis depending on fund availability. |
