Employment Requirements | Sworn Personnel Job Description | Current Opportunities

 

Thank you for your interest in employment with the City of Austell Police Department.  The following guidelines apply to the employment of sworn personnel with the Austell Police Department.
 

 

 
 

1.

Applicant must be 21 years of age at the time of employment.
 

 

 
 

2.

Applicant must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
 

 

 
 

3.

Applicant must have an employment application on file with the Austell Police Department.
 

 

 
 

4.

Applicant must have met all established requirements of the Austell Police Department.
 

 

 
 

5.

Applicant must furnish sufficient information to the Austell Police Department in order for a background investigation to be conducted.  Any applicant who submits false or incomplete information will be rejected and the employment process terminated concerning that individual.  Additionally, any applicant who does not satisfactorily complete the background investigation according to the criteria of this Agency will be rejected and will not be considered as a viable candidate for employment with the Austell Police Department.  False information is grounds for dismissal.
 

 

 
 

6.

Applicant must submit to a physical examination by an authorized physician and be certified as being in good health, physically and mentally capable of a psychological examination.  Each applicant determined to be unsuitable to become a sworn employee of the Austell Police Department will be rejected.
 

 

 
 

7.

Applicant must submit to a polygraph examination administered by a licensed polygraph examiner selected by the Austell Police Department.
 

 

 
 

8.

Applicant must pass a physical agility test to determine ability to perform physically strenuous duties required of sworn personnel.
 

 

 
 

9.

Applicant must appear before the Mayor and Police Chief for an oral interview.
 

 

 
 

10.

Applicant must meet all standards contained in the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Act, as amended.
 

 

 
 

11.

Application must achieve an eighty percentile (80%) score or better on all examinations and practical exercises when attending basic mandate training.  Repeated failure to meet this requirement will result in immediate termination of employment.  All new recruits will be advised at the time of employment that this is a condition of their continued employment with the Austell Police Department (policy 03-026.00).
 

 

 
 

12.

Applicant must be a citizen of the United States of America.
 

 

 
 

13.

Applicant must possess or be eligible and have applied for a Georgia's drivers license.
