The Community Development
Department is the focal point for a wide range of activities and programs
for the City of Austell. Parks and Recreation as well as Zoning fall within
the scope and responsibility of Community Development.
Builders and developers apply
for all building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits from the
Community Development Department, and individuals or groups schedule activities
at the Austell Community Center, Legion Park or the Threadmill Complex with
the Department.
This department coordinates
requests for annexation and zoning with the Planning and Zoning Board which
is comprised of citizens that have been appointed by the Mayor and Council.
Community Development also interacts with the Downtown Development Authority,
the Industrial Development Authority and actively seeks grants for city
projects.
Community Development is
responsible for coordinating the city’s outreach activities which include
Labor Day festivities, the Halloween festival and the Lighting of the
Christmas Tree. They also manage Austell’s Community Center as well as
design, building and leasing of all office space in the City of Austell
Threadmill Complex.
